Hour of the Scorpion

Atrium Verlag, October 8th 2026, in German, ISBN: 978-3-85535-234-0

What is the political thriller about?

Saudi Arabia in the near future: a wave of terrorist attacks threatens the kingdom. During one of these attacks, the Pakistani migrant worker Ilyas becomes an unwilling witness to a massacre and must watch the murder of his brother by the leader of the terrorists, the mysterious “Blue Scorpion” with his icy blue eyes. Ilyas is subsequently targeted by the terrorists and forced to flee – haunted by the death of his beloved brother. During his escape and search for the truth, he finds new allies: the Saudi entrepreneur Layla and the German diplomat Klaas. Together with Ilyas, they aim to stop the terror. In doing so, they face not only a threat that endangers their lives and those of their families, but also their own fears. To survive, they must rely on each other – whether they want to or not. They become increasingly entangled in a web of terror, violence, lies, and betrayal, in a struggle for power, resources, and influence until they realize that everything is quite different from what they initially believed.

Why did I write a political thriller?

Saudi Arabia has fascinated me for years – just as much as writing itself. So when I had the opportunity to write my first political thriller, I felt I had to fulfill this long-held childhood dream. In my novel, my aim is not to depict reality in a strictly accurate way, but to combine fiction and authenticity in order to tell a compelling story. I want to take readers on an exciting journey into a world that is unfamiliar to them – a world that is fictional, yet grounded in the experiences and background knowledge I have acquired. It is about a country in transition, about characters who must find themselves by working together – whether they want to or not. And it is about a world in which the West is losing influence while other powers are becoming increasingly dominant.
